Get content of a File
With this example we are going to demonstrate how to get the content of a File. We will make use of the org.apache.commons.io.FileUtils class, that provides file manipulation utilities. In short, to get the content of a File you should:
- Create a new File by converting the pathname string of the file into an abstract pathname.
- Use
readFileToString(File file)API method oforg.apache.commons.io.FileUtilsto set the contents of the file in a String, and print the String.
Let’s take a look at the code snippet that follows:
package com.javacodegeeks.snippets.core;
import org.apache.commons.io.FileUtils;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
public class GetContent {
public static void main(String[] args) {
try {
// We take a reference to an actual file on disk
File file = new File("test.txt");
// We store content of test.txt file to a string
String content = FileUtils.readFileToString(file);
// We print the string
System.out.println("Content : " + content);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
Output:
Content : Hello World!!!
This was an example of how to get the content of a File.
