First, I know the answer for this question can be "found" in other places, but nothing like the input of those who actually do it to get a better understanding on any matter.

So, gameGame development has lots of fronts... gameplay, physics, graphics, etc. and whenever I look up the answer for this question it's always something vague like: "extended knowledge of c++, c# or whatever".

But what exactly does that mean? Does the gameplay programmers know lots of openGL, directX? maybe lots of vectors, matrices? Do they need to know some network programming?

it may seem to you i'm kind of lost, and i am (: sorry if this requires a long answer, but when it comes to information on game development, the internet is very vague.
