Share your location via satellite

Google Location Sharing allows a one-time location share via Satellite so that your friends and family can see your location when you have limited connectivity and where satellite service is available.

Important:  This feature is currently available for the following Android devices on supported carrier networks: 

  • Google Pixel 9 series (except for the 9a) and newer

Locations where Satellite Location Sharing is available

This feature is currently available in these countries and regions.

Use Satellite Location Sharing 

You can use Satellite Location Sharing in Find Hub or Google Maps.  People that you share location with can view your location in Find Hub, Google Maps or Family Link.  

Important:  You can only use Satellite Location Sharing to send your location to friends and family that you already share your location with.  You can’t set up new shares with this feature.

Share your location with Find Hub
  1. On your Android phone, open the Find Hub app .
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap People .
  3. Tap the banner "You're offline. Connect to Satellite to update your location". You may need to allow Find Hub to access your device’s location.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to connect and update your location.
     Tip: To connect with the satellite, make sure you’re in an open space with a clear view of the sky and point       your phone upward.
  5. After a successful connection, a banner will show that your location was updated over satellite with the time of the connection.
Share your location with Google Maps
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Maps .
    1. Make sure you’re signed in to your Google Account.
    2. Make sure you’ve added the person’s Gmail address to your Google Contacts.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Location sharing.
  3. Tap Connect on the banner that reads "Maps is offline. Connect to Satellite to update location". You may need to allow Maps to access your device’s location.
  4. Tap Connect.
    Tip: To connect with the satellite, make sure you’re in an open space with a clear view of the sky and point your phone upward.
  5. After a successful connection, a banner will show that your location was updated over satellite with the time of the connection.
     

 Update your location 

You can repeat the steps to share your location via satellite up to 5 times in a 24 hour period, with at least 15 minutes between shares.
