TrueView view rate: Definition

Note: The following definition applies to TrueView views, which are billable. YouTube public views are video ad views that are not billable, but contribute to the public view count on YouTube. Learn more about YouTube ads and view metrics.

A ratio showing the number of paid TrueView views of a video ad to the number of impressions that were eligible for views.

For example, if you had 5 views and 1000 impressions, then your TrueView view rate would be 0.5%. Here's how it's calculated:

CTR calculation
  • TrueView view rate is similar to click-through rate (CTR), but instead of measuring clicks, it counts people who viewed your video ad after seeing it on YouTube or the Display Network.
  • You can use View rate to track the value of your video campaigns on YouTube and the Display Network.
Note: Impressions from non-TrueView view eligible formats like bumper ads or non-skippable in-stream ads aren’t counted.
