Farsight is a feature that's exclusive to the 3rd gen Google Nest Learning Thermostat. When Farsight is enabled and set to show you the weather, your thermostat might show you a message that says “Can’t get the weather right now. nest.com/m2” or “Can’t display the weather because your thermostat is offline.” It might also show incorrect weather information or the wrong outside temperatures.
Find your issue below for steps to take:
1. Check the Nest service status
If Nest service is down, it can affect features like Farsight weather that use online services. You can check the status of our service at status.nest.com. If the Nest service is down, it can affect features like Farsight weather that use online services.

2. Check that your thermostat is online
Your thermostat can only get weather information when it’s connected to a Wi-Fi network. If your thermostat shows you a message that says “Can't get the weather right now. nest.com/m2” or “Can’t display the weather because your thermostat is offline,” your thermostat might be disconnected from Wi-Fi.
3. Confirm your home's location
Your Nest thermostat uses Google Weather API data to get local weather information. If your location is incorrect, your thermostat might have trouble giving you the correct weather information.
Important: Check your home location both in the Nest app and on your thermostat to make sure they both have the correct information.
Google Home app
- Open the Google Home app

- Tap Favorites
or Devices

- Find your thermostat. If there’s a warning icon
on the thermostat’s tile, your thermostat is offline.
Nest app
- Open the Nest app.
- Find your thermostat on the Nest app home screen.
- If your thermostat icon is gray and says “Offline” underneath it, your thermostat is offline.
On the Nest Thermostat:
- Press your thermostat’s ring to open the Quick View menu.
- Turn the ring to Settings

- If your thermostat is offline, an exclamation point icon
will appear instead of the normal settings icon.

Tap Edit if you need to make any changes.
Nest app
- Open the Nest app.
- On the home screen, tap Settings
.
- Select Home info.
- Tap Address. You’ll find your home’s current address and location on a map.
- If the address is incorrect, tap it to enter a new one. Then tap Next or Done.
- Note: If you aren’t using your phone’s location to automatically switch your thermostat when you leave or come home, the map won’t appear.
- On the next screen, confirm your home’s location on the map is right. If it’s not, drag the map to fine tune it, then tap Done.
On your thermostat
- Press the ring to open the Quick View Menu.
- Turn the ring to Settings
and press to select.
- Turn the ring to find Location. You’ll find your address there.
If it isn’t right, press the ring to open location settings. Select Location on the next screen and press the ring. Follow the thermostat’s instructions to set your location information again.
4. Check your home Network settings
Reset your router and check that your home network settings are not blocking your Nest Thermostat from getting weather data.
Restart your modem and router:
- Unplug your modem or router’s power cord.
- Wait 30 seconds then plug it back in.
- Your modem will start up automatically. It can take a few minutes for the modem to finish restarting.
- After your modem has finished restarting, check that your thermostat and other devices can connect to the internet. If not, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further help.

Important: Check your home location using both the Nest app and your thermostat to make sure they both have the correct information.
