Call Google Voice to check voicemail

Important:

  • This feature operates differently based on the type of account you have. Learn more about Google Voice account types.
  • If you have a Voice Starter standalone plan, you can delete numbers in the Google Admin console. Learn how to unassign or reassign a Voice number.
  • You can only use credits for long-distance and international calls and texts.
  • If you have a Voice Starter subscription, you can’t purchase credits. Charges for long-distance and international paid calls and texts will appear on your monthly invoice.

To make paid calls without a Google Voice subscription plan, buy credit from Google Voice.

From your phone, you can dial your Google Voice number to check your voicemail or make a call. To access your voicemail, you must first set up a voicemail PIN.

Set your voicemail PIN

  1. Go to voice.google.com.
  2. In the top right, click Settings and then Account.
  3. Scroll to “Voicemail,” and turn on Call to listen .
  4. Set a PIN. 
  5. Click Save.

Check voicemail with Google Voice

When "Call to listen" is turned on:

  1. Call your Google Voice number.
  2. To get the Voicemail menu prompts, when your Voicemail greeting begins, press Star (*).
    Tip:To play your Voicemail greeting immediately when you call your Google Voice number, set a calling rule for your number in Custom Call Forwarding.
  3. Follow the menu prompts.
  4. Enter your PIN.
  5. Press Pound (#).
  6. To check your voicemail, press 1.
