Creating pathways to health for all, responding to disasters, & ensuring access to quality care for 45 years!

About us

For 45 years, we have been a beacon of health and hope for communities worldwide, confronting pressing health challenges. Established in 1979, we are a health-focused humanitarian organization dedicated to responding to people affected by poverty, disaster, and inequity with life-changing health programs, medicine, and supplies. Our mission is to help people and communities access health in times of disaster and every day. We envision pathways to health and opportunity for all, driven by our commitment to sustainable solutions and treating people as they want to be treated. To date, we have provided over $20 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the US. We distribute over $900 million in medicine and supplies to 90 countries each year. Over the next five years, we aim to help 100 million people gain access to quality healthcare. Let’s make health happen for everyone, everywhere.

  • "Thanks to Americares, I can be here for my son and enjoy precious moments together." - Priscilla This #WorldDiabetesDay, Priscilla reminds us what access to care makes possible. With support from Americares Free Clinics, she received the screenings, education and ongoing support she needed to manage her diabetes — and keep creating memories with her family. We work to ensure people all around the world have access to chronic illness support, affordable medications and the resources to live healthier lives. 💙 Together, we can make a difference. #Americares

  • Americares is deploying a 16-person Emergency Medical Team (EMT) to meet the urgent physical and mental health needs of survivors affected by #HurricaneMelissa in Jamaica. With dozens of health facilities damaged or destroyed, thousands have been cut off from care. Our team — made up of physicians, nurses and mental health professionals — will provide free primary care, treatment for injuries and infections, chronic disease management and mental health support in Chester Castle. Certified by the World Health Organization as a Type 1 Mobile EMT, the #Americares team meets the highest global standards for health care providers responding to emergencies. They will be on the ground for at least six weeks, helping restore access to essential health services and supporting local health workers who have been serving their communities despite immense loss. Americares is also delivering critical medicines, relief supplies and funding repairs for damaged health facilities, ensuring families and children in hurricane-affected areas can access clean water, hygiene products and care. Together, we can help #Jamaica recover. Donate to support our response and learn more in the comments.

  • Critical health infrastructure in Jamaica has been damaged because of #HurricaneMelissa. One way #Americares is working to get health systems back up and running is by supporting the Pan American Health Organization's cleanup efforts at Falmouth Hospital. The facility experienced extensive damage including the loss of more than half its roof, severe flooding and destruction of critical medical equipment. By funding cleaning equipment and critical supplies, we're helping restore essential health services to communities devastated by the storm. • "About 80% of the hospital is completely destroyed... The roof has caved in, we have lost our operating theater, we have lost access to our labs. The pharmacy is broken down as well." - Dr. Jheanelle Simpson, Black River Hospital The situation at Black River Hospital in Jamaica is dire.  Health workers like Dr. Simpson are doing everything they can to support their community in the aftermath of the Category 5 hurricane. • Americares Emergency Response Team is on the ground responding to #HurricaneMelissa— the strongest storm ever to make landfall in Jamaica. The Category 5 storm caused widespread destruction and cut off access to essential health services in the hardest hit communities. Dozens of health facilities sustained major damage, including Black River Hospital, which can no longer admit patients. The staff continue serving their community, providing acute emergency care for storm survivors. Our team is preparing to deliver medicines, emergency supplies and funding to restore health services across the island nation. #Americares Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gNZxq8Ad
