We’re Building A Better World. We’re more than just a successful capital equipment and engineering solutions firm. We’re an organization fiercely committed to improving the lives of our team members across the globe. By providing meaningful work in an environment of care and compassion, we send them home fulfilled by their time with us, rather than drained by it. Through our Truly Human Leadership culture and personal growth initiatives, we help them become their best selves. And when we bring out their best, they give their best. To their work, their team members and friends, our customers and suppliers, the people in the communities in which they work and live, and--most important of all--to their families. And before you know it, a better job has helped build a better world!

You may remember, in 2019, the Business Roundtable, a group of 181 CEO from some of the biggest corporations in the U.S., came out with a very well-articulated statement that we in business need to care more than just about the shareholders. They said we need to care about all stakeholders. We have yet to see any evidence that there has been a shift from shareholder focus to stakeholder focus. In their lives as CEOs, these businessmen –many of whom are very fine people – were never taught to care or rewarded for caring. They were taught to achieve objectives, mainly financial objectives, and they are rewarded for achieving those objectives. You can’t ask leaders to simply care for those they have the privilege to lead; you have to teach them the skills of caring #leadership. Read more in this new #TrulyHumanLeadership newsletter post:

Simon Sinek: “What you have should be the norm, not just for American manufacturing, but for American business. It should be the norm in a factory or an office or anywhere, that you come to work feeling like you matter, that someone actually cares about you as a human being. That should be the norm in America. It will be if we continue doing what we're doing.” On a new #TrulyHumanLeadership #Podcast, we're featuring a new conversation between Simon Sinek and BW Chairman Bob Chapman. When Simon visited our BW Papersystems location in Phillips, WI to record an episode of his A Bit of Optimism podcast, he and Bob also took the time to have a Town Hall for BW team members there as a thank you and to recognize for the inspiration they have been, not only to Simon but countless others. This Town Hall is a great dialogue between Bob and Simon and a companion to the "A Bit of Optimism" podcast. It also includes a couple questions from the audience, including the high school aged son of one of our team members that is a big fan of Simon’s and was very excited to talk to him. Simon and Bob also talk about the 10th anniversary revised and expanded edition of Bob and Raj Sisodia’s book, Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family. Listen to this inspiring conversation through the link in the comments below or through your favorite podcast provider.

“Over the 13 years I’ve been here, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in a lot of different Barry-Wehmiller University courses and meet team members of different backgrounds at other facilities,” Brooke said. “The bonding that was experienced in those classes was amazing. I think that speaks to our culture. I love that experience, and I want to see everybody have that experience throughout Barry-Wehmiller because that’s how you build a family.” Watch this new installment in our #BetterWorkBetterWorld video series below to learn more from Brooke Bennett, a People Leader for our BW Packaging company, and read more in this #TrulyHumanLeadership blog post: https://lnkd.in/gVAB5kEV #hr #humanresources #leadership #business #manufacturing

Many years ago, I was told that the person you report to at work can be more important to your health than your family doctor. I was taken aback when the person told me, but as with so many other things we’ve learned over the years, I sadly wasn’t surprised. The way we lead impacts the way people live.

What if business growth didn’t come at the expense of people?   At Chapman & Co., we’ve spent the last decade proving it doesn’t have to.   Our new People & Performance Playbook newsletter shares proven strategies from our parent company, Barry-Wehmiller. The same ones that helped grow a $1.5B business into a $3.6B global success story by putting people first.   Hear from Andrew Barenz, Sr. Consultant, on what’s ahead, and follow along if you’re a business leader who refuses to choose between people and performance. 👉 Subscribe here: https://lnkd.in/geM9Hm5s

Several months ago, my friend Simon Sinek visited our BW Papersystems facility in Phillips, WI to record an episode of his podcast, “A Bit of Optimism,” which was released this week. There was a clip from the episode that received a lot of attention where Simon and I are talking about layoffs. At one point Simon says: “Layoffs aren’t strategy. They’re a symptom of a system that’s lost its heart.” In my reply to Simon, I said: “Layoffs are a broken part of our society. It means your business model failed. You let people down.” Read some more thoughts on this subject in a new post:

  • You might recognize Randall Fleming, the fellow below, from Simon Sinek's recent "A Bit of Optimism" #Podcast. Simon went to our BW Papersystems company in Phillips, WI and talked to BW Chairman Bob Chapman and other BW team members, including Randall. He told Simon a part of his story, but we wanted to give you a deeper dive. Today's episode of our #TrulyHumanLeadership Podcast features Randall's story, told by Randall. It also features BW team members Ken Coppens and Maureen Schloskey. Listen through your favorite podcast provider or through the link 👇 👇 👇 Randall's story is testament to the life-changing power of meaningful work and the power of what happens when people care in business. It's an illustration of when we say that the way we lead impacts the way people live. He not only found more fulfillment in his work, his whole life completely changed. And Randall then became a leader, mentor and inspiration to others. #podcasting #leadership #hr #humanresources #management
