Roig Arena is redefining what a modern sports venue can be. As Nate Berg writes in Fast Company, "Roig Arena and its public amenities offer a refreshing take on a form of urban development that favors the “development” over the “urban.”" Designed by HOK and Valencia-based ERRE, the venue sits within a five-acre public plaza that includes green space, playgrounds, ball courts and a daily market hall, creating a civic destination that stays active far beyond game days. “As a designer, it’s rare that you get to introduce such significant public realm into a heritage city,” said John Rhodes, HOK design principal. 🔗 Read the full article: https://bit.ly/448SWI7

How can architects harness AI’s potential while maintaining the intentionality and critical thinking that defines great design? That’s but one question explored in our latest HOK Up Next. Featuring HOK's Loren Supp, Paul H. Harrison and University of Toronto's Humbi Song, moderated by Stephanie Miller, the panel conversation revealed both excitement and caution about AI’s role in shaping architecture’s future. Takeaways included: - The Promise and Peril of AI: AI expands creative possibility but also risks diminishing the reflection and critical thought at the heart of design. - AI’s Impact on Design Workflows: AI enhances the design process when used intentionally, supporting exploration, collaboration and new modes of making. - Architecture Education in the Age of AI: AI is reshaping architectural education, challenging how students learn, retain knowledge and develop foundational design skills. - Striking a Balance in AI Usage: Human intention must remain central, with AI used deliberately to augment—not replace—authorship, creativity and the human experience. 🔗 Discover more -- and watch a full recording of the 50-minute conversation -- in the article, https://bit.ly/4pdtPfC

HOK is proud to partner with Hines to renovate 910 Louisiana St., formerly One Shell Plaza, in Houston. Now under construction, the retrofit will activate the entire first and third floors to redefine the public and tenant experience. "This repositioning breathes new vitality into the tower, ensuring that its presence continues to inspire and serve the city well into the decades ahead," said Roger Soto, design principal. HOK's design creates a revitalized glass facade on the lower floors to introduce light while paying homage to the building's original design. The tower will add restaurant and retail spaces on the first floor. A new amenity space on the third floor will include an outdoor terrace overlooking Smith Street and Hermann Square. Other amenities on the floor will include a conference center, a spa-like fitness and wellness center and tenant lounge. Once complete, 910 Louisiana St. will serve as a model for how downtown office towers can evolve to provide a more human-centric experience.

University athletic programs are competing on a new playing field—one where facilities directly influence recruiting strength, athlete development and the fan experience. In this new article, HOK’s Peter Broeder, AIA, explores how collegiate venues are evolving with the same intentionality and innovation seen in professional sports environments. It’s a thoughtful look at how holistic facility design and planning can support long-term program growth, campus engagement and community impact. Three themes Peter highlights: • Elevating the Fan Experience – Diverse seating, social amenities and hospitality-driven environments that deepen engagement and extend the gameday journey. • Maximizing Year-Round Use – Multipurpose design strategies that activate facilities beyond game day and ensure they contribute to the academic, community and athletic mission. • Enhancing Athlete Development – High-performance training and recovery environments designed to support student-athlete well-being, growth and competitiveness

Congratulations to KPMG on the opening of its new U.S. headquarters and New York Office at Two Manhattan West! The 450,000-square-foot workspace consolidates three former Manhattan offices into one location designed for flexibility, technology integration and human connection. Spanning 12 floors organized into four New York–inspired “neighborhoods,” the headquarters features monumental staircases and an employee lounge designed to feel familiar and comfortable. At its center is Ignition—a design-thinking lab and client theater equipped with wall-size LED screens and flexible furniture arrangements that let teams simulate scenarios from AI rollouts to supply-chain shifts. Across the building, lighting and sound adapt to occupancy, and video systems auto-frame speakers to make hybrid meetings feel more equal. Designed though a neurodiversity lens, the office supports a variety of work modes—from quiet zones to collaborative project hubs. Materials and colors balance stimulation and calm—bright blues and patterns in high energy areas, softer tones in focus spaces. As one leader explained, “It's changing the way our people will work together and collaborate.” Together, these elements create a workplace that reflects the evolving nature of work itself—dynamic, connected and designed for what comes next. 🔗 Read more in Business Insider: https://bit.ly/486PrnZ Tara Roscoe, Jennifer Brayer, Thomas Polucci, Catherine Yatrakis, Kay Sargent, Beth Ann Christiansen

Congratulations to Bon Secours Health System Ireland on the opening of their new hospital in Limerick! The facility is the first large hospital to open in Ireland in almost 20 years and Bon Secours’ most sustainable hospital to date. The hospital addresses a significant gap in medical services for Limerick’s growing population. The 23,050-square-metre, 96-bed building has capacity to care for 50,000 patients annually. The hospital is divided into two volumes separated by a series of external courtyards and linked by glazed bridges. The curved block accommodates a concourse, outpatients, day-case services and inpatient bedrooms, with inpatient wards on the second and third floors forming an arc that offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The second block accommodates the diagnostic, treatment and surgical areas, improving efficiency with direct connections to supporting departments. The biophilic design includes a patient roof garden and a calming, nature-inspired interior. HOK's London studio collaborated with Reddy Architecture + Urbanism to deliver architecture, medical planning and interior design, with HOK’s Chicago office contributing to the project’s interiors. 🔗 Learn more, http://bit.ly/4qyrVHJ 📸 Donal Murphy

Are you required to go into the office? 👍 We want to know what you look forward to when you go to work. In a roundtable for the latest issue of Mix Interiors, HOK's Tim Hatton highlighted that when we work from home, we may miss more than we think , "The amount of information that you learn unconsciously - the conversations that you hear when going through your career, how to deal with a client, how to deal with a difficult situation - you don't get that at home." 🔗 Read the full discussion on pages 108-113, https://lnkd.in/gNYqUv5s
