    857 packages labeled by hand 😩 What was I thinking?!? Now it’s so easy… 1. Type in order # 2. Click Print 3. Peal and Stick Label 4. Daily Pickups 5. Done ✅ But it wasn’t always that easy. Back when we first started selling online, we labeled each package by hand. That wasn’t too bad when you only had 5-10 orders each day. But that all changed when Skillz placed a large order for their upcoming IPO. They wanted a recognition package shipped to each of their 857 employees worldwide 🤯 So what does a small business owner do? Say yes…. And figure it out later! I knew there had to be some sort of software for this, so I started my search. We found Shippo worked for our needs. We uploaded an excel file, ordered shipping labels and hit print for the first time. It was like magic! 857 labels printed in minutes 🤣 That’s what I love about business. It forces you to figure things out. If you don’t, you won’t survive.

If you spot slower deliveries on Fridays or weekends, adjust cutoff times or move promos earlier in the week. • Are we over-relying on certain service levels? When most of your shipments use the same speed, it’s harder to adapt when demand or carrier performance changes. A balanced mix keeps operations running smoothly and costs steady. • Are late deliveries rising, and why? Late shipments can signal carrier strain or fulfillment slowdowns. Shift volume away from underperforming carriers and reset delivery expectations in real time. • Are label prices creeping up, and where? Catch rate creep early before it erodes margin. Track trends by carrier and service level to see what’s driving costs. • Are failed deliveries quietly stacking up? Most days, that means helping someone get what they ordered quickly and affordably.     I wish this was a paid post…. A few weeks ago I bought a pretty pricey part for my Harley. After some sketchy back-and-forth negotiating on Facebook Marketplace with a total stranger, we came to an agreement and I was about to send a lot of money to someone I didn’t know. He sent me photos, the item looked perfect, and he even went above and beyond to package it securely for shipping. Five long days later, the package arrived. I was pumped. But when I opened it my heart dropped. The part was completely ruined. The packaging looked fine, but the box was mangled. It had clearly been tossed around during shipping. I’ve been using Shippo for all my shipping needs lately, especially for sending out Dadgood hats, and they always offer an instant shipping protection option. Normally, I skip it. This time, I figured why not and paid for it. Fast-forward two weeks of thinking I’d lost all my money (yep, the seller ghosted me and blocked me on Facebook)… But then I remembered LinkedIn is a superpower. I reached out to a few people at Cover Genius (XCover), the partner that powers Shippo’s insurance, and they helped get my claim approved. At 6:30 AM, I got the email. By 7:05, the money was in my Venmo. Moral of the story: I’m genuinely shocked an insurance company actually paid me out. And I’m damn grateful they did.
