Being a global tech company has taught us many valuable lessons, and chief among them is that every region requires a unique approach. That means distinct considerations, tailored processes, and oftentimes, a completely different set of expectations. There's definitely value in localizing global knowledge, but only if it's set in careful balance with the specific needs of the community being served. This fact is coming to the forefront once again as the world turns its attention not just to AI, but to AI in Africa. Because while the technology poses massive potential for the region, several challenges are hindering local professionals from taking full advantage of it. 💡Unreliable power Weak grids make data centers difficult to sustain, slowing the pace of digital transformation and AI adoption. 📚 Limited access to training There's no shortage of skilled labor in Africa, but it's difficult to enter the space when the number of resources available are limited and many of the tools aren't trained on local languages. 🌍 External dependencies Most of the AI tech deployed across Africa's oil fields process local data while still being linked to external systems, which has its benefits but also poses major questions around ownership—both now and in the future. It's nuances like these that must be considered when operating across diverse communities, and we're grateful for experts like Ghislain Fai-Yengo who not only help our organization make that difference, but also take the time to share their insights with the world. What will it take to scale AI in Africa's oil and gas sector? Read Ghislain's insightful article to find out: https://ow.ly/Mwkt50XrWx6

The value of AI doesn't reside solely in efficiency and delegation, but also in how it shifts the relationship between human and technology. As platforms advance and agents become increasingly intertwined in people's lives, technology is becoming less of a tool and more of a partner. This is just as true in oil and gas as it is anywhere else. We're now able to see the oil field as a dynamic system, with engineers and geoscientists becoming the "thinkers" behind how it ebbs and flows. Its curators and guardians. No one describes this better than Rakesh Jaggi, our very own President of Digital & Integration. After all, he brushes shoulders with the technology every day, exploring the AI opportunity with our clients and partners. Want to know how he sees the role of agentic AI in oil and gas? In a new series called Paper Route, our top experts translate the scientific findings of recently published research into explanations we can all more easily understand. The first edition is written by Drew Pomerantz, our resident lead in all things end-to-end emissions management. He reviews two research papers that each touch on methods for analyzing combustion efficiency, albeit in different ways. Find out whether the relative concentrations of methane and carbon dioxide released by field operations can truly be measured: https://ow.ly/Ch8250XkJyP And be sure to subscribe to the Insights newsletter to have the next research review delivered straight to you!

Announced today: SLB has secured two sizeable EPC contracts from PTTEP for the expansion of deepwater fields offshore Malaysia. As part of the contracts, SLB OneSubsea will deliver integrated subsea production systems — including horizontal trees, umbilicals and advanced control systems — for the Alum, Bemban and Permai gas fields in Block H and the Kikeh field, Malaysia’s first deepwater oil project. “We are proud to continue our long-standing relationship with PTTEP, which has seen the delivery of more than 50 systems over the past 20 years,” said Mads Hjelmeland, chief executive officer of SLB OneSubsea. “By leveraging our experience in complex deepwater environments and a highly collaborative approach, we will help PTTEP unlock maximum value from these projects.” Learn more about this announcement: https://lnkd.in/gFQag2bs #WeAreSLB #SLB #OneSubsea
