Creating a scene in downtown Pittsburgh since 1984
About us
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has overseen one of Pittsburgh’s most historic transformations: turning a seedy red-light district into a magnet destination for arts lovers, residents, visitors, and business owners. Founded in 1984, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is the cultural and economic revitalization of a 14-block arts and entertainment/residential neighborhood called the Cultural District. The District is one of the country’s largest land masses “curated” by a single nonprofit arts organization. A major catalytic force in the city, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a unique model of how public-private partnerships can reinvent a city with authenticity, innovation and creativity. Using the arts as an economic catalyst, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has holistically created a world-renowned Cultural District that is revitalizing the city, improving the regional economy and enhancing Pittsburgh’s quality of life. Thanks to the support of foundations, corporations, government agencies and thousands of private citizens, the Trust stands as a national model of urban redevelopment through the arts. Since 1984, the Trust has restored historic theaters, constructed new performance venues, commissioned public art projects and developed unique urban parks and riverfront recreation spaces. As one of the largest Downtown Pittsburgh property owners, the Trust manages one million square feet of property.

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership on reaching a construction milestone in Market Square. We were thrilled to play a part in yesterday's steel beam signing event! There is still work to do in Market Square and the Cultural District at Arts Landing, but we are on time and under budget. We look forward to welcoming the entire community soon!
This month marks one year of Downtown progress and a major milestone for Market Square. 📈 Last October, Governor Josh Shapiro announced a transformative $600 million investment to revitalize Downtown Pittsburgh, a bold plan to expand housing, improve public spaces, and enhance safety, cleanliness, and human services. Today, state and local leaders, project partners, and community members gathered in Market Square for a ceremonial beam signing to mark the halfway point of the construction and celebrate a year of transformation. As PDP President and CEO Jeremy Waldrup shared, “Market Square is halfway there and right on track. But this milestone isn’t just about steel and concrete. It’s about people — the three million visitors who pass through each year, and the small businesses and restaurants that make this space so uniquely Pittsburgh.” Partners from Allegheny County, the City of Pittsburgh, the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development gathered to sign one of the steel columns that will anchor the new Market Pavilion, the future home for markets, music, and community gatherings. ⏭️ Next up: construction on the north side of Market Square wraps next week. Crews will begin shifting to the south side beginning the week of November 3, and we’ll celebrate the progress Pittsburgh-style with the Market Street Block Party on November 8th, 4-8 pm - all are welcome!

⚠️ Accessibility in Action: Show Effects and Warnings Sheet ⚠️ Imagine watching a Broadway performance and—suddenly—you hear a loud noise, or a sudden flash of light, or a fog descends onto the stage. If these kinds of effects are overstimulating, we have a new resource that can help you prepare for those moments. The show effects and warnings sheet, created by the Cultural Trust Accessibility team, will be provided at PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh performances on Fridays through Sundays, available in the inner vestibule.
