Elaine doesn’t call herself a volunteer – she calls herself a visitor companion. For the past eight years, Elaine has brought more than time to the bedside. She brings presence, empathy and a gift for connection. Pictured here with Edna, one of the many patients she’s supported, Elaine draws on her background as a speech therapist to listen beyond words. “Most of my work was with people who had very limited communication skills,” she says. “It’s been a privilege to use that knowledge here, especially with patients experiencing dementia or confusion.” And then there’s music. A lifelong singer, Elaine uses familiar songs to spark memory and joy. “Music is usually something that’s always familiar,” she shares. “We search for that special link – songs from their youth, hymns, even children’s music.” Her visits are all about being present and honoring each person’s journey. 💜 Want to make a difference like Elaine?
