  • Great conversation on the Behavioral Health Tech stage today on redefining value in behavioral health! When we talk about value, we’re really talking about outcomes — are patients feeling and functioning better in their daily lives? Shout out to Anastassia Gliadkovskaya for moderating this important discussion, and big thank you to Ann O'Grady, Nicole Stelter, and our own Colleen Marshall for their insightful contributions. We’re feeling energized to keep building an effective behavioral health system that’s accountable, affordable, and human-centered. #BHT2025

I’ve been digging into a new paper on the application of AI in mental health care, and it walked us through a familiar cycle of hype and hope. The review shows that AI-chatbots – including newer GenAI models – have shown some short-term effectiveness in improving depression symptoms, but longer term effectiveness is much lower, and the effects on anxiety and stress are less impressive. The authors note a few key concerns with AI that have troubled me as well. Specifically, although they can generate superficial empathic responses, this is based only on textual analysis, mimicking an emotional connection rather than relating to an individual in a genuine way. These tools also fare poorly – at least for now – at longer term planning and maintaining a cohesive therapeutic relationship across multiple sessions with a patient.  Of course, as noted by many others, transparency and issues around data privacy and safety remain significant obstacles. At Two Chairs, we believe in thoughtful applications of AI. AI will never replace human clinicians, but we believe it can help them be better by reducing administrative burden, enabling more meaningful patient time, and strengthening the human connection between patient and therapist.. If you’re interested in the current state of AI evidence, this paper is worth a read. 🔗https://lnkd.in/erYG3bu9 #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealthCare #DigitalHealth #AIinHealthcare #AIinMentalHealth

  • To truly redefine value in behavioral health, we have to focus on outcomes. We’re excited to announce our Chief Clinical Officer Colleen Marshall will speak about the urgency and necessity of value-based care at the Behavioral Health Tech conference, alongside Anastassia Gliadkovskaya, Deborah Fernandez-Turner, DO, DFAACAP, CHIE, and Ann O'Grady. For years, the behavioral health field has been stuck in a cycle of fee-for-service inertia — talking about value, but rarely aligning payment with real outcomes. That’s finally starting to change. We’re seeing more models that reward what matters: clinical improvement, retention, patient experience, and reductions in medical cost. Join us to hear from these leaders on why this is important now, and how we can use data and technology not only to report on progress, but to drive it. #BHT2025
