Crews navigated seismic zones, Naturally Occurring Asbestos, and a maze of urban infrastructure to complete this critical upgrade.   Black & Veatch teams worked closely with the community and local agencies to minimize disruptions and protect the environment throughout construction. Big news for Southwest Louisiana! With final federal approval, the Black Bayou Project can move forward in Cameron and Calcasieu parishes and build underground “salt dome” storage for natural gas. Construction on the new Leland Olds Station substation is drawing to a close. The facility is one of Basin Electric’s largest substations, with room for future expansion. National Grid is expanding its Riverhead compressed natural gas facility to more than double its capacity, enhancing the region's ability to meet peak winter demand. The upgrade includes removing old buildings, adding a new control building, and increasing tanker injection capacity from 11 to 24 trucks. This expansion supports reliability on Long Island’s East End, even with future pipeline projects planned. - Capacity will increase to handle up to 24 tanker trucks simultaneously. - The project is part of a state-approved plan to improve gas supply during coldest days. - Compressed natural gas facilities remain crucial backup despite proposed pipeline enhancements.
