Lightweighting in Action: Meet Etteplan at the Formnext 2025 Excited to announce that Etteplan, a worldwide Finnish engineering services company with extensive experience of successful additive manufacturing projects, will be joining us at the Siemens booth Hall 12.1 Booth D119 with their 3D printed solution for a tree harvesting machine boom component. With the power of Altair’s simulation-driven design for manufacturing solution (DfM), the Etteplan team revisited the design of the extension boom-end of a tree harvester: a large, heavy part conceived to resist both static and dynamic forces throughout its arduous working environment. In the hands of Etteplan experts in AM design, AM processes, materials, and FEM, the redesigned AM part met all load constraints and reduced the weight by 66%. It also opens new opportunities for lightweighting adjacent parts and assemblies to enhance their customers’ products by optimized design for performance, and simulation-driven design for manufacturing. #Formnext #Altair #Siemens #ForwardTogether Photo credit: Photo: Teemu Leinonen, Etteplan

Great Scott! Did Doc Brown actually survive the 'Back to the Future' finale? We used Altair MotionSolve to digitally debunk the physics of the 88 mph lightning strike. Our multibody dynamics (MBD) simulation revealed a frightening reality: the forces on the hook and cable exceed their yield strengths. The cable would likely snap and whip violently. Conclusion: If physically accurate, Doc Brown was in mortal danger. Movie magic saved him; simulation proves he was out of time! Read the full engineering breakdown: https://lnkd.in/gPaD-7qA

Engineers aren’t meant to spend days creating meshes, they’re meant to solve real-world problems. In a recent podcast episode with Jousef Murad, our own Jaideep Bangal, Senior Director at Altair reflects on how implicit modeling is helping engineers move beyond the limits of traditional CAD. By integrating design, simulation, and manufacturability into one seamless process, engineers gain the freedom to explore ideas, validate them instantly, and bring innovation closer to reality. Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll hear in the full episode: ✓ How “joint-up modeling” connects design, simulation, and production ✓ How AI is transforming design exploration ✓ Why the best engineers are often the most curious ones 🎧 Watch the full podcast on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gE2Epr5P
