About us
Boston Children's Hospital is a 404-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. (Our services can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation and in some situations we also treat adults.) We have approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions each year and our 200+ specialized clinical programs schedule 557,000 visits annually. Last year, the hospital performed more than 26,500 surgical procedures and 214,000 radiological examinations. Our team of physicians and nurses has been recognized by a number of independent organizations for overall excellence, and we're proud to share some notable examples with you here.

In October, Fetal Care and Surgery Center alumni joined us at Kimball Farm in Westford for the first-ever Fetal Intervention Family Day. The event gave families a chance to connect with one another and to reconnect with the clinicians and staff who cared for them. For our team, it was a powerful reminder of the impact of their work. 💙 http://ms.spr.ly/6048tOkC8

What changes are on the horizon for health care? Our very own Dr. Joan LaRovere, Dr. Lissa Baird, Dr. Ellen Grant, and Dr. Martha Murray are joining Bloomberg Businessweek to talk about their vision for the future — and why investing in children’s health today helps ensure the well-being of adults tomorrow. Two studies in The New England Journal of Medicine last year reported exciting long-term follow-up results of gene therapy for cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD), the degenerative neurological disease portrayed in the movie “Lorenzo’s Oil”: 80 percent of boys were free of major disabilities. But they also highlight a risk: About 10 percent of the boys developed cancer, and one passed away from complications of cancer treatment. Our care team is continuing to help families weigh the risks and benefits, while our researchers seek ways to improve safety. ⤵️

One year after being among the first to join Dr. Darren Orbach’s fetal embolization trial for vein of Galen malformation (VOGM), one couple’s son is healthy and thriving. Early study results published in JAM show similar promise across the study, with reduced neonatal mortality and positive neurodevelopmental outcomes among treated infants. As the trial continues, so does the potential to transform care for this high-risk prenatal diagnosis. Learn more ⤵️

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved revumenib, a first-in-class oral menin inhibitor, for the treatment of adults and children one year and older with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with NPM1 gene mutations. More than twenty years of collaborative research with Boston Children's Hospital contributed directly to the initial discovery, development, and approval of revumenib.
Revumenib was first approved in November 2024 for patients with AML harboring a KMT2A translocation. NPM1 mutations are much more common in AML, meaning that 40% of AML patients will now have access to this treatment option. More than twenty years of collaborative research with Boston Children's Hospital contributed directly to the initial discovery, development, and approval of revumenib. “It is personally satisfying to see that the hard work of our scientists has led not only to a novel approach to AML therapy but also to its availability to many more patients,” says Scott Armstrong MD, PhD, senior vice president for Drug Discovery and Chief Research Strategy Officer. The Mildred C. Hailey Teen center is officially open! 🎉 We are proud to partner with Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, Boston Housing Authority, and Tree of Life to bring a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment for teens and preteens in our community. The new center offers workforce readiness programs, academic supports, cooking and music lessons and leadership opportunities for young people ages 10 to 18. A heartfelt thank you to Representative Samantha Montaño and Boston City Councilor Benjamin Webber for their advocacy and support — and to our entire community for your energy, persistence, and passion in bringing this vision to life.

Boston Children's Hospital reposted this
Champions for Children’s is the one night where Boston sports stars team up with business leaders for an evening of fun and fundraising, all to support lifesaving patient care and groundbreaking research at Boston Children's Hospital. Each year, our Champion Award celebrates an athlete who has gone above and beyond off the court to support our patients and their families. This year, we’re proud to honor Jayson Tatum! Ever since he was a rookie, he's never missed a hospital visit. Whether visiting with the Boston Celtics or on his own, Jayson has made personal connections with our patients and been a wonderful role model we can all look up to. Congratulations, Jayson, and thanks for changing the game for kids! 🏀

Rapid genomic sequencing has the potential to transform care for critically ill infants. Dr. Monica Wojcik from our Division of Newborn Medicine is leading the Seq4NICUs study, exploring universal testing for all undiagnosed infants in our NICU. The goal: better outcomes, faster diagnoses, and more equitable care. Learn how this research could impact families ⤵️
