At just 16, Franco Rodriguez Viau co-founded Satellites on Fire, an AI-powered early warning system now protecting 56 million hectares across 19 countries and preventing over 400 wildfires in recent months. Working to End Extreme Poverty NOW ⭕️ Tune in to Global Citizen Festival on Sept. 27
About us
We are an advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty. We do this by encouraging people to learn and take action on our platform; those actions apply pressure on world leaders to make commitments around the issues associated with extreme poverty: gender equality, food security, education, the environment, global health, citizenship, and sanitation. We don't ask people for money, but to take action for the world’s poor. These actions can be as simple as a tweet, signing a petition, making a phone call, or sending an email. By taking action, these Global Citizens are rewarded with access and tickets to our music festivals and other events around the world. So far, more than 13 million actions have been taken by Global Citizens, leading to $35 billion commitments being made by world leaders, which are set to affect 1.3 billion lives by 2030.

#Cambodia just became the 18th country to officially support the #FossilFuelTreaty! 🇰🇭 At #COP30 in Belém, Secretary of State Soung Sophorn affirmed Cambodia’s commitment to a fast, fair and financed global transition aligned with a low-carbon, climate-resilient future. As part of the High-Level Action Agenda, Cambodia joined governments calling for a binding international mechanism to phase out oil, gas and coal and protect vulnerable communities. Countries across Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and beyond are stepping up where fossil fuel interests have stalled ambition. With 18 participating nations, and over 145 cities worldwide, the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative is rapidly becoming the clearest roadmap for achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Cambodia’s leadership strengthens the push for a global agreement to end expansion and scale finance for a just, people-centred transition. ✊ Read our press release at the link in the comments below!

As ministers land in Belém this week, they’ll face one of COP30’s defining challenges: securing the financing needed for real, lasting climate action. Global Citizen is calling on governments to adopt solidarity levies on premium air travel - small, fair contributions added to business-class tickets and private jet flights that could generate billions for climate resilience. Here’s why this matters: ✈️ Fair: Only the wealthiest flyers contribute. 💡 Simple: Collected through existing ticketing systems. 🌍 Proven: Countries like France, Chile, and Korea have already raised billions through similar approaches. 🏝️ Impactful: Funds can build flood defenses, power clinics with solar, restore coastlines, and strengthen communities facing climate extremes. More than 231 organizations and 99,000+ Global Citizens have signed our open letter urging leaders to join the Premium Flyers Solidarity Coalition at COP30. This is smart policy: predictable, debt-free finance that doesn’t burden everyday families or harm the aviation sector. This week, as decisions are made in Belém, we’re asking leaders to step up and champion this innovative solution. 👉 Learn more & take action at https://bit.ly/3Xx0fFO #ClimateAction #SustainableFinance #GlobalCitizen #COP30 #SolidarityLevies #ClimateJustice Michael Sheldrick

What can Amazonian small business leaders teach the world about making climate action work for communities? This past Saturday, at the MuCA | Museu de Ciência da Amazônia in Belterra, Brazil, Global Citizen and SEBRAE brought together entrepreneurs, artists, investors, and policymakers for a gathering to spotlight thought leaders and businesses within Amazon’s bioeconomy on a global stage. Building on the momentum of the Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia and the commitment to mobilize $1B for the Amazon and beyond, the lesson was clear: building a thriving bioeconomy requires driving investments into the hands of those who are putting the global climate agenda into action. As stated in addresses by H.E. Mia Mottley and H.E. Stefan Lövfen, we must bridge the gap between global resources and local solutions, move from headline pledges to real-world impact rooted in nature. In a region under constant pressure to clear forests, local leaders and businesses are proving there is another path: regenerative, forest-based enterprises that create jobs, protect ecosystems, and model solutions to global climate challenges. This work is made possible through our partnership with SEBRAE, whose leadership under Décio Lima and Rubens Magno Jr, is strengthening the Amazon’s socio-bioeconomy and helping small businesses scale sustainable solutions from the ground up. Special thanks to the local businesses who exhibited their products and all speakers who spoke on initiatives to create deforestation-free value chains, highlight local bioeconomic enterprises, and close the gaps to make international financing accessible to local business leaders. We’re beyond proud to celebrate Comerc Energia and Future Climate for helping make Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia one of the most sustainable festivals ever to take place in the Amazon region! 🌿 Through the collective contribution of carbon credits, these two helped offset the festival’s entire carbon footprint. All emissions were independently monitored and will be verified by experts including Hope Solutions and Showpower Global B.V., who are producing comprehensive post-event greenhouse gas and energy impact assessments. Thanks for helping prove that bringing people together in celebration doesn’t have to come at the cost of protecting the planet 💚 Read more about the festival's sustainability efforts in our Impact Report 👏 https://lnkd.in/e8Ux5Qek
