I can't figure out how to install the Oracle/Python adapters to make this work. Whenever I try to install cx_Oracle I get the following error:

python setup.py install                                                                                              ~VIRTUAL_ENV/build/cx-oracle

Here are the vars in my .bashrc file:

# Export Oracle Values
ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
export ORACLE_HOME
export ORACLE_SID=XE
export PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

I want to connect to a remote Oracle database anyway. There's no need for one to be installed on my local machine. Is this possible? And if so, how do I do it?

  • that produces nothing. i'm updating my post with the vars i have in my bashrc. Commented Nov 16, 2010 at 19:37

You need to add $ORACLE_HOME/lib to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH

That doesn't work. I've added it to my path and now get this error: ImportError: libclntsh.so.10.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
