Regex for validating an email string, using Jquery

Question

I am taking the ; (semicolon) separated email addresses from a textbox & need to validate each individual email address, using Jquery.

Could anyone plz let me know if we can use inbuilt Jquery validation plugin for Email validation? Else what would be the Regex for the same?

Sample Code:

@marcog — Apparently his definition is rather narrower then "Something you can address an email to and expect to be received". There are TLDs with more than four characters in them now. — Quentin

I don't know about being able to use the Email Validation Plugin like you'd like.

About the Regex, found this Email Regex on Regular Expressions : ^[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,6}$

TLD should be at least [a-z]{2,6} to match museum or travel and may be more than 6.

I have tasted above regular expression with [email protected]. But its failing. You can just replace your regular expression with the dummy code that I ve provided in my question to check it out.

@Biki : I'm not familiar with jquery, but I tried to run my Regex and it works, but for this sort of case, I set an IgnoreCase parameter. If you don't have that type of parameter, use ^[a-zA-Z0-9._%+-]+@[a-zA-Z0-9.-]+\.[a-zA-Z]{2,6}$ taht will add the lowercase letters and it should work :)

-1 Using that for OP's use case would be going seriously overboard. All he needs is a reasonably good regex to catch obviously wrong addresses due to typos.

Don't try to validate with a regular expression, you're not going to get it right unless you use Andon Hansson's code (and even that may not be complete).

There is nothing worse than being unable to input my valid email because someone didn't get their regex correct.

Just use the HTML5 email input type and let the browser do the work for you:
