This event brought together GIFCT’s diverse industry members to reflect on 2025's achievements and chart the course for an impactful 2026. A look back at highlights from Day 1 of the Hedayah International Research Conference 2025 in #Brussels, where over 150 experts, practitioners, and policymakers came together to share research, lessons learned, and innovative approaches to countering extremism and violent extremism. The first day featured thought-provoking discussions across three thematic panels, exploring how digital spaces, technology, and classrooms can shape prevention and resilience efforts worldwide. Keynotes from Hedayah Research Fellow Prof. Orla Lynch (University College Cork) and Ali Abdullah Al-Budair Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Violent Extremism, Iraq, set the tone for a dynamic week of evidence-driven dialogue and collaboration. The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), in coordination with Public Safety Canada | Sécurité publique Canada and the (tag) United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), convened an event on the margins of #UNGA80 to advance the dialogue on preventing youth radicalization and addressing terrorist and violent extremist content online. Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) was pleased to join the UNODC Terrorism Prevention Branch and the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs for a regional workshop on “Preventing and Countering the Spread of Violent Extremism on Gaming, Gaming-adjacent, and other Online Platforms in South-East Asia.” Held in Singapore from 28-30 October 2025, the event brought together government, law enforcement, industry, and researchers to strengthen collaboration on preventing violent extremism online. GIFCT’s Trust and Safety Team, represented by Skip G., shared our work in the gaming and gaming-adjacent space, including the Gaming Community of Practice (GCOP), which helps enhance coordinated responses across platforms.
